Cuban documentary Red Sun in the Sunset  was shown at DisOrient Asian American Film Festival, in Oregon, United States (April 29-May 1, 2011).

The documentary recreates the migratory experiences of a group of isseis in Cuba.  But since most isseis (first generation immigrants) had passed away by the time the film was made, their stories are told via their sons and daughters.  Therefore, it is a documentary about past lives and present memories.  Red Sun's filmmaker Marina Ochoa commented (in a personal interview):

Red Sun in the Sunset focuses on the history of a specific [Japanese-Cuban] community, but at the same time I intended for the documentary to represent the story of all immigrants. There are processes and experiences that all immigrants share, despite their places of origin or destination.  For instance, immigrants have to adapt to new idiosyncrasies, languages and cultural practices, or face a different world, without many tools and only guided by necessity. El documental El sol rojo en el poniente fue presentado en el DisOrient Asian American Film Festival, en Oregón, Estados Unidos (abril 29-mayo 1, 2011). El documental recrea las experiencias migratorias de un grupo de isseis(primera generación de inmigrantes) en Cuba, quienes en su mayoría habían fallecido para el año en que se realizó el filme. Las historias de los iss eis son contadas a través de sus hijos e hijas, por lo que es un documental sobre unas vidas pasadas y unas memorias presentes. Su directora, Marina Ochoa, comentó lo siguiente (en una entrevista personal):

En El sol rojo en el poniente hay una historia, de un colectivo, que pretendí que fuera también la historia de todos los migrantes. Hay procesos que son comunes a todos los migrantes del mundo, no importa de donde vengas o hacia donde vayas. Por ejemplo, el choque de idiosincracias, las culturas, el idioma, el proceso de adaptación a nuevas cosas, o el enfrentamiento a un mundo diferente, sin muchas herramientas, solo con la necesidad.
